Groupama 3, a really nice route
|
| Cadix - San Salvador |
| Yesterday evening Franck Cammas and his nine crew completed their first record attempt...And with a stunning performance,
as Groupama beat Steve Fossett's Columbus Route record, improving it by 2 days 2 hours 31 minutes and 5 seconds.

Franck Cammas's reactions7 days 10 hours 58 minutes and 53 seconds : new reference between Cadiz and San Salvador « I never dreamt of
scratch-time like this when we left from Cadiz. We have beaten the record by over 2 days on a reference time of 9 days. It
is a good proportion compared to a boat (Playstation) that was a reference for having Sailed Around the World in 58 days !
We managed to sail a good course in spite of a slightly wheezy start and not the best weather conditions. I think we sailed
well.»
Groupama 3, a successful christening ? « Groupama 3's performance has been beyond our
expectations on this type of course. On board, we feel calm sailing fast, which is very important for what lies ahead. The
boat proved to be very consistent, performing well and fast in average conditions. So it is already fulfilling some of our
start requirements, namely for the transition areas from a circumnavigation perspective. Besides minor details concerning
the functioning of certain systems, we are quite delighted to have this boat in our hands...»

What lies ahead...Launched in June 2006, the maxi trimaran has had its first ocean christening - its first Atlantic run. The first in a long
series, as from the end of the month of May, Franck and his "dream team" will be back in the United States for a « Miami-
New York » before starting on a stand-by lasting over a month and a half in Newport to set off on the famous North Atlantic
Record (New York - Cape Lizard).
From there, the Groupama trimarans' skipper will meet Groupama 2 to dispute
the first race of the ORMA calendar - the AS Lease Challenge - starting from Lorient on 13th May.
