Hello,
Occasionally there are times where you want to write just to describe these magical moments.
It's
0500 hours in the morning, my watch is drawing to a close but I don't want to leave the deck; the moment is too beautiful,
too intense. You no longer feel tired. We were without speed, without wind. The moon is completely round and it's so intense
that the sea is like a mirror.
Suddenly a breath of air caresses our cheeks and the trimaran gently picks up speed. It
becomes a magical moment, from my fingertips the boat slips along in silence, the windward float suspended in the air. The
two other bows pierce through this sparkling sea. In the sky the glimmer of dawn climbs slowly upwards. Fred, Billy and I
exchange glances without uttering a word, no need to speak. It's a unique moment and you have to experience it within yourself,
each of us lost in thought. The magical moment continues, and you want the minutes to turn into hours, such is sense of
well-being. Your soul and your body are one and the same now; you feel light, as if happiness has picked you up and carried
you off into a dream.
And then, the rest watch end up getting restless and I can already hear the first of them climbing
the companionway steps, ripping open the intoxicating silence. It's beautiful. I'm going to hand over the helm to get the
camera and try to immortalise this secret moment which, already, is no longer the same. The end of our watch is long overdue;
the three of us have just experienced the magic of a steed of the oceans which is unlike any other.
PS: Steph, don't
use this as an excuse to ask for money. We wouldn't have enough.
Jaco
