eXtreme 40 catamaran
The creators of the Extreme 40 have taken the largest and fastest boat from the Olympic classes and doubled its size for even greater power and speed.

"The concept behind the Extreme 40 is to bring sailing to the pubic, and not the reverse", explains Herbert Dercksen, CEO of TornadoSport, which collaborated in the design of the 40 foot catamaran in 2004 and built the boats. "The Extreme 40s are incredibly fascinating to watch and we attach a great deal of importance to the show that we can put on for spectators, in a bid to try to convey the thrill of racing in the Extreme 40."

"It's the Olympic catamaran, the Tornado, which is at the root of the Extreme 40. The architect Yves Loday is an Olympic Tornado medallist. As for Mitch Booth and myself, who have been part of the adventure since the start, we have also sailed a great deal in this class. Indeed, the Extreme 40 is an extended version of the Tornado. It is twice as big and incredibly fast".

A European championship

Grouped together since 2006 in a championship sponsored by the iShares company, the X40 criss-crosses Europe from North to South.

The 2009 calendar for the iShares Cup is now official. Along the same format as the two previous editions, six events are raced at the heart of the largest European towns.
